MISHAWAKA, Ind. — More than a hundred community members gathered in the streets around Mishawaka City Hall Friday evening.
ABC57 NightTeam arrived as the protest was coming to an end and spoke to people as they headed home, including protest organizer, Maria Carmona.
Carmona said they were protesting policies that undermine diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.
“We’re gonna be hosting, we’re gonna be hosting a lot of call your representative parties, we’re gonna keep protesting. We’re not going to stop and we’re gonna make sure that we’re heard,” said Carmona.
Folks arrived at the protest with signs reading messages that displayed their current concerns, such as access to Medicaid, the elimination of DEI policies, and several other issues.
“It is not a democratic issue, it’s not a young person’s issues or old or republican. Medicaid and fair wages and our air and water, all of these affect all of us, and it’s important to be paying attention right now,” said South Bend resident, Ryan Hill.
