Around 4:30 p.m., officers responded to a burglary near the 1300 block of Corby Boulevard. An off-duty Notre Dame officer who was in the area at the time saw two males leaving a home that was reportedly being burglarized and approached them.
Upon confronting the suspects, gunfire was exchanged.
The males ran from the scene and left in a black SUV.
Police believe the suspects are black males, between 5’6” and 6’ tall and were wearing black clothing and masks.
No one was injured in the incident, Indiana State Police reported. The Notre Dame officer is on paid leave pending the outcome of ISP's investigation.
Anyone with information about the suspects is asked to call ISP at 574-546-4900.
