UPDATE: One dead after early morning house fire in Mishawaka, state fire marshal investigating cause

UPDATE: Penn Township Fire Department reports crews responded to the house fire in the 16000 block of Valley Trail in Mishawaka around 2:03 a.m.

Crews arrived to find a single-story home engulfed in fire.

Local departments from Mishawaka, Center Township, and Madison Township also responded to assist.

The fire was brought under control within about 20 minutes.

One person was found dead in the home. Their identity is being withheld pending next of kin notification.

The Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office and St. Joseph County Police Department have been requested to assist with the investigation into the origin and cause of the fire.

No firefighters were injured.

ORIGINAL STORY: MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- A house fire on the 16000 block of Valley Trail impacted traffic early Wednesday morning near Dragoon and Ireland Trail in Mishawaka with parts of Dragoon and Valley Trail blocked off.

The call came in at 2:03, according to county dispatch. They say the house was fully engulfed when crews arrived, and the fire was under control less than an hour later.

Mishawaka Fire confirmed that one person has died as a result of the fire.
