UPDATE: As of 5:30 p.m., only one person is currently being treated at the hospital. There were multiple injuries, but many were not serious enough for hospitalization. 

UPDATE: The South Bend Police Department has confirmed that two people are being treated at the hospital following the report of an explosion at the Lock Tube Joint manufacturing facility on South Bend's south side Wednesday afternoon.

"Upon arrival, firefighters immediately responded to a working fire and acted quickly to get it under control," the SBPD said. "The cause of the reported explosion and fire is under investigation. Emergency units will likely be on-scene for the next several hours."

ORIGINAL: SOUTH BEND, Ind. --St. Joseph County Dispatch confirmed to ABC57 News several police and fire units are currently responding to Lock Joint Tube at 515 W. Ireland Rd. in South Bend as of 3:50 p.m. Wednesday.

Police say the call came in just before 3:30 p.m.

No further details have been released at this time.

Lock Joint Tube manufactures mechanical and structural grade steel tubing in five plants located in Indiana, Ohio, Texas, and Tennessee.

"Selecting hot rolled, cold rolled, aluminized, and galvanized steel, Lock Joint Tube services fabricators and distributors, as well as original equipment manufacturers with different sized and shaped steel tubing used in such diverse industries as solar, automotive, office furniture, health care, exercise, and display fixtures to name a few," the company's website says.
