BENTON HARBOR, Mich. -- A new tournament is getting top amateur golfers out onto this golf course in Benton Harbor.

The inaugural 'Jim Delapa Collegiate Golf Tournament' tee's off at the Point O' Woods Golf Club in September.

Bringing together the best college golf teams right here in southwest Michigan, but it's not just the talent organizers say they are proud of, they are also highlighting the Benton Harbor community with this event.

"It's the layers of the story in the community side of this that I believe really separates this from a traditional golf tournament, the fact that we do have Central Michigan coach coming back to where he caddied as a kid, learned a lot of those life lessons out on these fairways, Caddying for our members. Now he's kind of grown into division one college golf coach, coming back to where it all started, as he's mentoring these next generation of young kids," stated General Manager at Point O' Woods Matt Flaherty.

All the proceeds will go to the Point O' Woods Educational Foundation, providing financial support to caddies and other employees as they work towards their degrees.
