Community Build underway at Kathryn Park
PLYMOUTH, Ind. -- Plymouth Community School Corporation sent a letter out to the community stating they were made aware of a safety concern involving the Sig P320 handgun, which is currently issued to Plymouth police officers and school resource officers.
School officials say the concern involves the rare, but documented, incidents of the handgun discharging without the trigger being pulled.
The district says they took immediate action against the safety risk and in cooperation with local law enforcement and school security personnel assessed the situation to respond appropriately.
Officials decided SROs will temporarily return to using the handguns they used previous to the Sig P320 until replacements arrive.
According to Console & Associates, over 100 people have allegedly been injured from an unintentional discharge by their Sig Sauer P320, with at least 80 people suffering gunshot wounds.
