Penn, Mishawaka meet for sectional title with regional berth on the line

NOW: Penn, Mishawaka meet for sectional title with regional berth on the line

MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- The high school baseball postseason continues Monday night in Mishawaka, where Penn and Mishawaka will meet with a sectional championship on the line. The winner advances to regionals, while the loser’s season comes to an end.

For Penn, this is familiar territory. The Kingsmen enter the championship game at 21-6 and have already picked up two sectional wins to get here. Penn opened postseason play with a dominant 12-0 win over Michigan City before beating South Bend Adams 4-1 to earn its spot in the title game.

But Mishawaka is not just playing the role of underdog. The Cavemen are the defending sectional champions and are chasing what would be the program’s 10th sectional title. Plus, Mishawaka gets the benefit of playing for the championship on its home field.

This is not David vs. Goliath. It is two proven programs, separated by only a few miles, meeting for a sectional title. Both are just one win away from regionals.
