Pedestrian dies after being hit by semi on I-94
LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. – One person has died after being struck by a semi along I-94 on Thursday morning, Indiana State Police reported.
At 7:16 a.m., the state police Lowell Dispatch got a call from a trucking company who said they believed one of their drivers had struck a pedestrian on I-94.
The trucking company initially called at 6:28 a.m. saying the driver had hit a deer and was waiting for a report at a rest park at the one-mile marker in Michigan.
Troopers responded to the scene and found a deceased pedestrian near mile marker 45.5 eastbound.
An initial investigation found that a red 2012 Volvo semi was driving east in the right lane when the pedestrian was hit and killed, according to reports.
The pedestrian was wearing dark clothing.
The right lane of I-94 was shut down for an hour and a half for the investigation.
The driver of the semi is cooperating with the investigation.
Investigators do not think drugs or alcohol were factors for the semi driver.
Troopers are working to identify the pedestrian and find out why they were on the interstate.
