Opiate overdose leads to investigation, arrest of two people

PULASKI COUNTY, Ind. -- The Pulaski County Sheriff's Office reports the Winamac Police Department responded to an opiate overdose on Monday, which led to an investigation.

Authorities say the investigation led to a search warrant being granted for a property near Francesville.

The report states additional officers and deputies were called to the scene to assist with serving the warrant.

While executing the search warrant, authorities say they found dangerous controlled substances and firearms inside the residence which led to the probable cause arrest of two people.

The individuals have been identified as 54-year-old Daniel Whited, of Francesville, who's currently on probation through Pulaski County, and 37-year-old Elizabeth Boyd, of South Bend, who had active felony arrest warrants through another county. 

Authorities say the investigation is ongoing and no further information will be released.

The report states law enforcement utilized unmanned aerial drones for surveillance and information during the warrant service.

The Starke County Sheriff's Office also provided a K-9 Unit to assist with the investigation, and ballistic shields, body armor, and body worn cameras were all utilized to ensure officer safety.
