One man in custody after Lincoln Township shed catches fire, damages nearby home
LINCOLN TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- The Lincoln Township Police and Fire Department both responded to reports of a structure fire early Sunday morning that caused a family to evacuate their home.
Authorities say a call came in around 5:25 a.m. on Jan. 26, and emergency units were dispatched to the 600 block of W. John Beers Road, near Stevensville.
"Upon arrival, first responders found a detached shed fully engulfed in flames, with the fire beginning to spread to the adjacent home," authorities said.
"The Lincoln Township Fire Department extinguish the fire, minimizing damage to the adjacent home and ensuring the safety of the family residing in the home. All occupants were successfully evacuated, and no injuries were reported. However, the shed was completely destroyed, and the fire caused damage to the exterior of the home."
An investigation into the cause of the fire led to the arrest of a 51-year-old man from Benton Township who was lodged in the Berrien County Jail on charges of Arson.
"The case remains under active investigation, and no further details are available at this time," the LTPD said. "Anyone with additional information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Lincoln Township Police Department."
