Ohio murder suspect arrested in La Porte County
LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- Indiana State Police Dispatch reports it received information from Ohio authorities that a suspect wanted for the alleged murder of a 17-year-old may be traveling on the Indiana Toll Road on Saturday, July 13.
Around 9:57 a.m. that day, a trooper located a gray Toyota that matched the description given by Ohio authorities.
The trooper followed the vehicle and was able to see other identifiers and confirm this was the suspect vehicle.
The report states the Toyota continued west past the La Porte exit with the trooper following until backup arrived.
The trooper made a traffic stop on the Toyota near the 38-mile marker of the Indiana Toll Road with the assistance of a Westville police officer.
The Toyota's driver, identified as a 22-year-old man from Painesville, Ohio, was safely taken into custody and taken to the La Porte County Jail.
The Willoughby Police Department in Ohio is investigating the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old that occurred in their jurisdiction.
The suspect's identity will be released once he is arraigned.
