ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. – The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office is reminding everyone that the building for the former Elkhart County Jail is being demolished and the area will be closed off.
Officials say a fence will surround the demolition site and no one will be allowed to enter.
Elkhart County Police emphasize that demolition sites are hazardous because the buildings are unstable and harmful debris is everywhere.
Police say that there will also be legal consequences for anyone who enters the demolition area and is not authorized to do this.
You could be charged with a Class A misdemeanor which is punishable by up to one year of imprisonment and a fine of up to $5,000.
