Notre Dame swimming head coach resigns

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Mike Litzinger, Head Coach of Notre Dame’s Swimming & Diving program, is resigning from his position, Vice President and James E. Rohr Director of Athletics Jack Swarbrick announced on Monday.

Litzinger also plans to retire from the sport of swimming completely.

Associate Head Coach Aaron Bell is also no longer with the team.

“Making changes in the leadership of one of our programs is never easy, especially at the start of the competitive season, but recent events convinced Mike and me that a change in the direction of our program was necessary,” Swarbrick said.

The program will not compete in the dual meet that was scheduled for this weekend. Instead, this week will be used to develop an interim plan, Swarbrick said.

Notre Dame’s diving program will still be under the direction of head diving coach Mark Bradshaw.

A national search for the next full-time leader of the swimming program will begin later in the year.
