Notre Dame snaps Missouri’s winning streak in 76–71 thriller
University of Notre Dame Athletics SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Notre Dame delivered a big win Tuesday night, knocking off Missouri 76–71 and ending the Tigers’ eight-game winning streak. The game stayed tight from start to finish, with the score tied seven times and momentum swinging both ways.
Guard Cole Certa played a key role in keeping the Irish steady. He knocked down four of his seven shots from three-point range and gave Notre Dame timely scoring when it needed it most. Markus Burton led all scorers with 18 points, while Jalen Haralson also added 13 of his own down the stretch.
Defense and rebounding made the difference late. Carson Towt pulled down nine rebounds, and Burton added five of his own. Notre Dame finished the night shooting just over 46 percent from the field but struggled at times with ball control, committing 13 turnovers. Missouri took advantage of those mistakes with 23 points off turnovers.
The Tigers led 40–33 at halftime and held the lead for most of the night, controlling the game for nearly 24 minutes. Notre Dame, however, stayed patient and made its push in the second half after leading for only about 10 total minutes of game time.
After the win, Certa said the team stayed confident in its shooting, even after recent struggles.
“We’re a better shooting team than what we showed the last few games,” Certa said. “I think we’re one of the best shooting teams in the country. Tonight, we shot it really well, and you’ll see more of that.”
Head coach Micah Shrewsberry echoed that confidence and praised his team’s effort.
“They earned the right for something good to happen,” Shrewsberry said. “Missouri didn’t give us anything. Our guys earned it by doing things the right way.”
Notre Dame now shifts its focus to a road test in Texas against TCU. The Horned Frogs are 5–2 on the season and coming in with a big win over Florida, along with a close game against No. 3 Michigan. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. Friday.
