Rep. Walberg discusses FEMA decision on Michigan disaster relief funds
MICHIGAN -- There's been a major reversal from FEMA and the Trump administration on federal disaster relief dollars in Southwest Michigan.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency originally denied Governor Gretchen Whitmer's request for a disaster declaration--and FEMA assistance, in the wake of four tornadoes on March 6, that ranged in strength from EF0 to EF3.
The governor appealed the ruling, followed by Michigan's congressional delegation writing a letter to the president. Today President Trump announced $32 million dollars will come through to help recovery efforts in Cass, St. Joseph, and Branch counties.
During an interview with ABC57, Michigan Congressman Tim Walberg said "The impact that we had with floods and tornadoes straight line winds, etc. gave us a need and we've been, I know our delegation has been supportive of disaster assistance for other states and communities, because we believe that's part of the process and if we don't help them, why should they help us? But this is one of the times we need it."
