Notre Dame Receivers expected to have the best improvement for the Irish Offense
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- This year's offense is expected to take a jump with new offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock and a loaded receiving room.
The number one-word players are using to describe Denbrock's offense is 'explosive'.
"It's a lot more explosive. You know, we're not afraid to throw the ball downfield. We're not afraid to get the ball in our playmaker's hands, and that's what we're going to do," stated Sophomore Receiver Jaden Greathouse.
Greathouse hauled in 18 receptions for 265 yards and 5 touchdowns in his freshman campaign in 2023. This season with the addition of transfers, incoming freshman, and a new quarterback, the offense looks to be as productive as the defense.
Greathouse continues, "You know, we got guys who can make run after the catch plays. We got guys who can go up against double coverage and catch the ball. We got a lot of different kind of guys for a lot of different situations. So, this offense is really versatile and it's really explosive. So we're excited for this season."
Excitement is growing for week one with transfer quarterback Riley Leonard, who is proving to his talented receivers what he's capable of on the field.
"He does a lot. I mean, first, you know, deep ball, short ball, window, tough catches, and then, you know what he does with his feet? I don't think I've seen trying to think, not Notre Dame, but probably in my life, he's, he's fast, you know, his GPS numbers ran 20 miles per hour. So, it's, it's kind of funny, when you got a quarterback this, you know, got running back level speed," stated Junior Wide Receiver Jayden Thomas.
Two weeks out from the season opener, receivers coach Mike Brown says the receiver room is 8-10 deep but wants to get it down to the best 6 before their season opener Aug. 31 against Texas A&M.
