SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- One of the star players for the Fighting Irish this season is involved in a new NIL deal.
Chipotle announced it has signed a partnership with quarterback CJ Carr. Carr is apparently ranked in the top one percent of Chipotle rewards members in the state of Indiana.
ABC57 spoke to an expert to explain the two types of NIL deals.
"I guess I kind of put it into two different buckets, you can talk about it as being either internal and external NIL or university NIL versus marketing NIL," says Emily Keller of St. John's University. "So universities now, with the licensing agreements that they're able to reach with student athletes and pay student athletes for the use of their name, image, and likeness on campus is completely separate from then these deals, which is, I guess, more the traditional sense of what NIL was at the beginning, where student athletes can go out and engage in deals with external companies, external to the university, in order to earn additional compensation for the use of their name, image, and likeness."
Neither Chipotle nor Carr released financial details of the detail. The money would be on top of the $3 million-a-year deal Carr already has at Notre Dame.
