KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Notre Dame Fighting Irish Baseball team is headed to the College World Series. The Irish got the win over the Tennessee Volunteers Sunday, June 12, 7-3 to advance.
The Volunteers scored first in the bottom of the first inning.
Notre Dame answered back in the top of the second tying it at 1-1.
Tennessee would score again in the second and fifth innings, giving them a 3-1 lead.
Three runs innings from the Irish in the seventh and eighth gave them a 7-3 lead, and the eventual win.
This is the first time the Irish have made the College World Series since 2002, the year they knocked off Florida State.
In the next round, Notre Dame will play the winner of the series between East Carolina and Texas in Omaha, Nebraska.
