ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- A grand jury did not indict a South Bend Police officer who was involved in a fatal crash while on duty, according to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office.
Patrolman First Class Justin Gorny was traveling eastbound on Western Avenue with his lights activated when his patrol vehicle struck an SUV driven by 22-year-old Erica Flores who was northbound on Kaley.
The crash happened around 4:30 a.m. July 20th.
Flores died as a result of the crash.
The grand jury reviewed evidence to determine if Officer Gorny's actions deviated from acceptable standards enough to be indicted for reckless homicide.
The grand jury returned a "no bill," which means they didn't find enough evidence to indict Gorny.
