CASS COUNTY, Mich. -- A 28-year-old Niles man is dead following a motorcycle crash with a deer Sunday night on M-60.

The Cass County Sheriff's Department reports deputies responded to the crash near Lilac Avenue in Howard Township around 8:55 p.m.

Authorities arrived to find Jesse Maurer suffering from serious injuries. Maurer was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators determined Maurer was operating his motorcycle, traveling north on M-60, when a deer struck the side of his motorcycle.

Maurer then lost control, veering off the road into a culvert.

The incident remains under investigation.
