Niles hosts trick-or-treating early to support Halloween football playoff game
NILES, Mich. — It was treats before touchdowns in Niles Thursday night as the city split from tradition, hosting its community trick-or-treating a day early so fans can hit the stands on Halloween night to see the Niles Vikings take on Zeeland West in a home football playoff game.
With the trick-or-treating taking place early, the Vikings got together Thurs. for a team dinner where they packed hundreds of bags of candy that was donated by local businesses and the community.
The cheerleaders plan to hand that candy out during the game Fri., making sure every kid gets their Halloween fill.
“The mayor moved trick-or-treating for us to play on Friday because it’s a big game, history’s gonna be made, so he wanted to make sure everybody came to the game and supported us… being able to… change the city’s history, change the school’s history and have all this support on our back, it’s, it’s really an honor,” said Niles defensive end senior football player, Malachi Burris.
