Fort Wayne siblings trapped in sand hole while on vacation, 7-year-old girl dies, 9-year-old brother hospitalized

A GoFundMe has been set up for a Fort Wayne family after 7-year-old Sloan Mattingly, and her 9-year-old brother, Maddox, became trapped in a sand hole on a beach in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Fla., which resulted in Sloan's death and Maddox being hospitalized, according to info from 21Alive WPTA Fort Wayne.

According to an official press release, the siblings were digging a hole on the beach when they became trapped in the sand around 3 p.m., Tuesday.

Both children were taken to the hospital where Sloan was later pronounced dead. Maddox is said to be in stable condition.

Officials say the incident remains under investigation.
