From just above average today to the 80s later this week
GRANGER, Ind - Workers were out here earlier Thursday, starting to demolish the vacant building.
One resident in the area I spoke to says this place hasn't had too much luck with restaurants, and he's right.
The city of Mishawaka tells me the building used to be a Chi’s-Chi’s restaurant which opened in the 1980s and closed in the early 90s.
Then, there were two more failed restaurants.
One being a Chinese restaurant, and then a Mexican restaurant.
It's been vacant for a while, but now it's getting torn down.
Construction is already underway.
Mishawaka's city planner says the northern part of the property will be a climate-controlled self-store facility.
I spoke to some people who live and work in the area who say they are hopeful that the new development helps business in the area.
Jasem Sheikh, the owner of Jay the Barber, which borders the old building, is excited for what's to come.
“So, I've been in this area for about 25 years now in South Bend, growing up, I've seen this building get opened and closed, open and closed, so I'm happy that something solid is going to happen here now, hopefully it will bring a lot of business to the area," said Sheikh.
