New Prairie High School takes hit from severe storms
LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- Severe weather and high winds (microburst) ripped the roof off of New Prairie High School Friday morning.
The southwest section of the campus took the brunt of the storm with debris, ceiling tiles, and standing water all over the floor – even pieces of the roof hanging on by a single wire.
No one was present during the storm.
“I'm thankful that everyone was safe and nobody was injured to my knowledge at this point and so we're pretty fortunate with the time of year that it happened," said New Prairie Superintendent Paul White.
However, Superintendent White expressed some frustration because the roof that ripped off was brand new.
"It is frustrating on the one hand that a section of roof that we just recently replaced has been completely thrown off a section of building," said Superintendent White.
He also said that the section of the building that has been damaged was scheduled to be fully renovated. No word yet on how much it will cost or how long it will take to repair.
