MASSACHUSETTS. -- New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs has been arrested for strangulation and assault charges according to court records. 

Diggs has been accused of slapping and choking a female at his home in Massachusetts on Dec. 2. 

Diggs and the female allegedly had a disagreement about money, she told police when she first reported the incident on Dec. 16.

He is now facing a felony charge of strangulation and a misdemeanor charge of assault. 

The Patriots responded to the allegations with a statement, saying: "Stefon has informed the organization that he categorically denies the allegations. We support Stefon. We will continue to gather information and will cooperate fully with the appropriate authorities and the NFL as necessary."

The NFL also acknowledged it was aware of the charges against Diggs in a statement.

Diggs is set to appear at the Dedham District Court to be arraigned on the charges on Jan. 23.
