New Elkhart fire station breaks ground in Cleveland Township

ELKHART, Ind. – Construction of a new fire station in Elkhart began on Saturday after years of planning.

According to our reporting partners at The Elkhart Truth, Cleveland Township firefighters broke ground at the site of the newest station on CR 6.

The department will hold offices and training opportunities alongside normal operations at the station, which is projected to cost over 4 million dollars to build.

Land for the site was originally purchased a decade ago when a recession hit the area, but the plans were updated in 2019.

The new station will include facilities like a pond for water and ice rescue training, a 150-person meeting room and emergency shelter.
