ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Mich. - In a press conference earlier today, police released the names of the two victims in Sunday's double homicide in St. Joseph County.
The Sturgis Department of Public Safety responded to the area of South Centerville Road and South Street on Aug. 5 around 10:43 p.m., following reports of a shooting and pedestrian-car collision.
Officers located the victim, 39-year-old Stacy Ramsey, lying in the roadway with a gunshot wound. Witnesses at the scene tell police the suspect struck the woman with his vehicle before fleeing the scene. Ramsey was transported to a nearby hospital where she died on the way.
The second victim was later found during a protective sweep. Police identified 61-year-old Jerry Longacre, deceased at Sweet Lake Mobile homes, where police were searching for the suspect before he escaped.
Police spotted the suspect, 30-year-old David Algarin Jr., Sunday around 11 a.m. in his black Honda CR-V.
In police dash-cam footage obtained by ABC57 News, police tracked the suspect during a pursuit on M-86 and Kane Road. The pursuit ended with gunfire and Algarin losing his life.
The police say they don’t have a clear motive at this time, but say detectives are working diligently to piece together what happened.
