New Carlisle proposing new community center, two meetings scheduled to hear public feedback

NEW CARLISLE, Ind. -- The Town of New Carlisle, in St. Joseph County, is proposing the development of a new Community Center to "serve as a central hub for connection, recreation, education, and support for all residents."
Town officials say, the goal is to create a welcoming space where people of all ages and backgrounds can come together, engage in various activities, and foster a greater sense of community.
"As we move forward with the planning of the New Carlisle Community Center, we want to hear from you," said Olive Township Trustee Will Miller. "We believe the success of this project depends on ensuring it meets the needs and desires of the people who will use it most: YOU, the residents of New Carlisle."
There are two community meetings planned on the topic, and an online survey residents can fill out to ensure their voice is heard, even they can't make the meetings.
Those two in-person meetings where residents can ask questions, share ideas, and discuss the project with fellow residents and planners, will be held April 10, from 6-8 p.m. at Olive Elementary, and on May 15, from 6-8 p.m. at the New Prairie High School Gymnasium.
Potential benefits:
- Enhanced Social Connectivity-- The new center can provide a gathering place for residents to connect, build relationships, and form new social networks. It would be a place for people of all ages to come together for events, activities, and programs, helping to foster a sense of community and belonging.
- Recreation and Wellness Opportunities-- A community center often offers recreational activities, fitness programs, and wellness initiatives. These could help improve physical and mental health by providing locals with access to affordable fitness options, sports leagues, yoga, and other wellness activities.
- Support Local Events and Education-- The center could host workshops, educational seminars, and local events, offering opportunities for learning and personal growth. It could also serve as a venue for cultural events, town meetings, or youth programs, enriching the community’s cultural life and providing essential resources to the residents.
"As we move forward with this exciting project, we want to ensure the new Community Center meets the needs and desires of the New Carlisle community," Miller said. "Your feedback is vital in shaping the center’s design."
