UPDATE: Motorcyclist identified, cause revealed in deadly collision with semi Tuesday afternoon

UPDATE: The Elkhart Police Department has identified the motorcyclist involved in the crash as 19-year-old Michael Harrington.
Police say their initial investigation indicates Harrington was riding his motorcycle east on Bristol Street when he struck a FedEx semi-truck pulling out of a parking lot in the 1500 block of Bristol Street.
Harrington was ejected and pronounced dead on-scene.
The truck driver, a 48-year-old man, is cooperating with the investigation.
The investigation is ongoing.
ORIGINAL: ELKHART, Ind. -- A motorcyclist was involved in a crash and killed in Elkhart early Tuesday afternoon and authorities say the investigation is still open.
The Elkhart Police Department responded to the 1500 block of Bristol Street around 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday for reports of a crash between a semi-truck and a motorcycle.
"The male driver and sole occupant of the motorcycle was pronounced deceased at the scene," the EPD said.
"The male driver of the Semi-Truck has been cooperating with the investigation."
Authorities say the motorcycle driver’s name is being withheld pending family notification and the crash remains under investigation.
