UPDATE: Motorcyclist seriously injured following crash at S.R. 23 and Douglas intersection

UPDATE TWO: The St. Joseph County Prosecutor's office states the initial reports indicate that the driver of the vehicle, a 26-year-old South Bend woman, was leaving a convenience store and turned left onto S.R. 23. 

The motorcyclist, identified as a 53-year-old Edwardsburg man, was traveling north on S.R. 23.

The 26-year-old driver remained on scene following the crash and cooperated with the investigation. 

The motorcyclist sustained serious injuries and remains in the hospital as of Monday morning.

UPDATE: The Intersection of S.R. 23 and Douglas is now back open to the public.

The FACT Team is now taking over the investigation. 

ORIGINAL STORY: SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Bend Police Department is currently on the scene of a crash involving a motorcycle and a vehicle at the intersection of S.R. 23 and Douglas Road.

The motorcyclist has been transported to the hospital for treatment.

Police ask that the public avoid the area at this time while they continue investigating.
