Mike Braun officially sworn in as Indiana’s 52nd Governor
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Bend Community School corporation held a public hearing Monday evening to decide the fate of the building that was formally home to Hay Elementary.
SBCSC School Board voted to close Hay Elementary in 2021 as part of ongoing efforts to ‘right size’ the district.
It found new life when South Bend Hebrew Day School moved in, and for years they hoped to make that a permanent deal.
The President of the South Bend Hebrew Day School walked ABC57 through the halls, they will purchase from SBCSC for $650,000 after years of leasing the property.
As their enrollment grows, they hope to make renovations to the building that were not possible as renters.
“Yeah, we are super excited because something that’s been a long time we’ve been in this building since before Covid. We were in Hamilton before and we’re hoping it will officially be our building tonight,” said Solomon ahead of Monday’s meeting.
The motion passed 5-1 in favor of the sale of the Hay Elementary School building, and The South Bend Hebrew Day School will now take over as the owners of the property.
