More than 45 pounds of marijuana located during traffic stop on U.S. 31

FULTON COUNTY, Ind. - Deputies discovered more than 45 pounds of marijuana, along with other illegal drugs, during a traffic stop on U.S. 31, according to the Fulton County Sheriff's Office.

On Saturday, deputies performed a stop on U.S. 31 near Old US Highway 31.

Deputies believed criminal activity was occurring and requested a K9 unit to conduct a free air sniff around the vehicle.

K9 Rapid alerted to the presence of illegal narcotics in the vehicle, deputies said.

During a search of the vehicle, deputies found more than 45 pounds of suspected marijuana, 17 grams of methamphetamine, THC vape cartridges, THC honey, and a loaded handgun, reports said.

John Madden, 46, of Evarts, Kentucky, was arrested on the following charges:

  • Possession of methamphetamine
  • Dealing in marijuana
  • Possession of marijuana
  • Possession of paraphernalia
