Moped driver in critical condition after crashing into a South Bend school bus

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A moped driver is in critical condition after he crashed into a South Bend school bus!

It happened around 7:30 a.m.

Police said the moped turned onto Sample, lost control, and swerved into oncoming traffic!

The bus was headed to Adams High School.

Twelves students were on-board, but were not hurt.

Police said the moped driver had a helmet on, but suffered a serious head injury.

"He was unconscious the entire time he was here, so it's life threatening. Anytime somebody is unconscious, with a head injury. You're talking a small moped against a giant school bus. Those aren't good odds," said Sgt. William Kraus of the South Bend Police Department.

The man's name hasn't been released.

Police think the rain this morning may be to blame since the roads were still wet.
