Minimum age for driver's licenses reducing to 16 in Indiana
MGN INDIANAPOLIS -- Starting Wednesday, July 1, new Hoosier drivers can earn their driver's licenses 90 days sooner, on their 16th birthdays.
This minimum age reduction from 16 years and 90 days to simply 16 years comes as part of House Enrolled Act 1200, which was signed into Indiana law by Governor Mike Braun on Mar. 12.
Other requirements to earn a driver's license have not changed. To earn a driver's license at age 16, a new driver must still pass the written test and hold an Indiana Learner's Permit for 180 days, successfully complete a Driver's Education Program, show a signed Log of Supervised Driving, pass a vision screening test, and pass a driving test.
According to the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles, this minimum age reduction also extends to motorcycle endorsements.
