Michigan State Police complete temporary assignment to Benton Harbor

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. – Since the middle of August, troopers from the Michigan State Police have been working in Benton Harbor to expand the city’s efforts to reduce violent crimes. That assignment comes to a close a month later.

MSP resources assigned to the city through the Secure Cities Partnership, however, remain in place.

This partnership was developed to address crime through a system of “smart justice” that recognizes the connection between enforcement and community engagement.

Through the partnering of the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety and Michigan State Police, 115 arrests were made as well as 51 guns taken off the streets.
