Michigan Governor Whitmer signs new laws to prevent distracted driving.

PLYMOUTH, Mich-- Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed three new bills today aimed at preventing so called distracted driving.

During the signing today, the governor was joined by families who have lost loved ones in vehicle crashes that involved distracted drivers.

The three new laws will ban general use of using a phone of any type while driving. That includes making or receiving a phone call, watching or recording a video and using social media while driving.

The state had already banned texting while driving.
