Michigan City Police respond to two incidents of shots fired Thursday morning

LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. – The Michigan City Police Department responded to two reports of shots fired within an hour of each other Thursday morning, the Police Department reported.

At 10:53 a.m., officers and detectives were called to the 1000 block of Franklin Street for reports of several shots being fired and someone hit by gunfire.

When officers and detectives arrived to the scene, they learned no one was hit by gunfire.

A witness said they had seen two men between 18-20 years old shooting into the air in the 100 block of E. 10th St.

The men were then seen running towards E. 9th St. after allegedly firing the gunshots, reports said.

Another witness said they saw the same two men shooting towards a silver Ford Edge with an Illinois license plate in the 100 block of E. 10th St., police said.

Officers and detectives searched the area and found multiple handgun cartridges in the 100 block of E. 10th St. and in the 100 block of E. 9th St.

 Officers and detectives found no property damage because of the incident and determined there was no threat to nearby schools when the incident took place, reports said.

Within an hour of responding to the first scene, officers were called to the 1100 block of W. 9th St. for a second call of shots fired. Officers were still processing evidence from the first incident when they were called to the scene of the second.

Officers searched the area of 1100 block of W. 9th St. and found a house that had been hit by gunfire.
