Metro Homicide Unit investigating incident of man in critical condition following arrest
ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. – The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit is investigating an incident involving a man who is in critical condition following his arrest Monday evening, the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office reported.
At 8 p.m. Monday evening, St. Joseph County Police Officers were called to fire station #25 at Bittersweet and Anderson Roads in Granger for reports of an unwanted person causing problems.
When officers arrived to the scene, they made contact with the person, a 44-year-old man.
While officers investigated the incident, and after a brief struggle with the man, he was arrested for resisting law enforcement, police said.
The man was taken to the St. Joseph County Jail where he continued to struggle with officers, reports said.
The man then began to show signs of experiencing a medical emergency and medics were called to the Jail.
The man was taken to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition.
The Metro Homicide Unit is investigating this case and is reviewing car camera video and jail video, performing witness interviews, and trying to find out what the man’s medical emergency was, police said.
