Medaryville man faces felony charges following string of alleged burglaries

Marshall County Jail: Michael Huff

MARSHALL COUNTY, Ind. -- A 29-year-old Medaryville man is facing multiple felony charges after an alleged string of burglaries across multiple counties.

The suspect, Michael Huff, is charged with three counts of Burglary, as Level 5 Felonies, and three counts of Theft where value of property is between $750 & $50k, a Level 6 Felonies.

Huff had his initial hearing, and his pre-trial conference is set for Aug. 19

According to the probable cause affidavit in the case, a deputy with the Marshall County Sheriff's Department was contacted on July 20 about a boat stolen from a home on Muckshaw Road being found in Starke County.

A deputy with the Starke County Sheriff's Office was already with the stolen boat at a property on Ridge Road. The Marshall County deputy then met up at the location.

Upon speaking to the family whose property it was, deputies learned Huff had driven a silver Ford F150 pulling the boat and trailer on July 15.

The family stated they knew Huff and told him to stay off the property, but the boat was found still hidden on the property days later, leading them to contact the sheriff's office.

Authorities say they recorded a phone call between Huff and one of the family members, where Huff allegedly acknowledged placing the boat there and that he would send someone later that day or the following to pick it up since he was on home detention.

The boat's owner was contacted and was able to retrieve it.

Authorities then conducted a search through FLOCK after learning the F150's license plate number, which revealed it was registered to Huff.

One of the FLOCK images is said to have shown Huff's truck with what appears to be white kitchen cabinets in the back along with 2x4's. Authorities say this matches up with items stolen from a home in the 14000 block of 20A Road.

Authorities then traveled to Huff's last known address in the 200 block of E. Ridge Road in Medaryville. Deputies arrived to find what appeared to be an older kitchen cabinet sitting by the driveway, as if the home was being remodeled.

The license plate on a green moped parked in front of the residence returned to Huff.

Marshall County authorities confirmed with the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office that Huff was on home detention through Starke County. It had just started the week prior.

A search warrant was then drafted and granted for Huff's home and truck.

Deputies from Pulaski County and Marshall County then executed the search warrant at Huff's home.

Four people were inside, one being Huff. Huff was subsequently detained and read his Miranda Rights.

Deputies say Huff initially wouldn't cooperate but then confirmed the stolen cabinets from 20A Road were inside along with a washer and dryer and other items taken from Muckshaw Road.

Huff also admitted to taking the boat from Muckshaw Road and dropping it off near the Ridge Road residence in Starke County, according to authorities.

Huff's residence was photographed Inside and out. In the kitchen and laundry room, deputies located kitchen cabinets, a stainless-steel exhaust hood, microwave, 2x4's, and a Dewalt chop saw, all stolen from 20A Road

Stolen items from Muckshaw Road were recovered as well, including a stainless-steel refrigerator and the washer and dryer set.

The items were taken away to be stored while the victims were notified.
