VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. - A 60-year-old Mattawan mas killed when his car veered off the road and struck a tree in Antwerp Township on Thursday night.
The vehicle was traveling east on 62nd Ave. when the driver failed to navigate a slight curve in the road.
The driver was not wearing his seatbelt and officials believe that alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
The tree became a safety concern after the crash and the Van Buren County Road Commission has temporarily closed 62nd Ave. as a result.
The tree is scheduled to be removed later today, and the road will be reopened once that process is complete.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
