SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Jaden Mickey will earn his degree from Notre Dame before entering the transfer portal this season.
Monday's press conference with Head Coach Marcus Freeman started with a recap of Saturday's win over Miami (Ohio). Freeman announced players of the game:
- Offense - Riley Leonard
- Defense - Boubacar Traore
- Special Teams - Bryce Young
Shortly after, he mentioned the injury report that includes Cooper Flanagan out for week five with an ankle injury, and Joshua Burnham as questionable.
The biggest surprise came when Freeman announced the following statement: "Jaden Mickey... had a conversation with him. He's decided to redshirt with the intentions of going into the transfer portal when it opens," Freeman said.
"Jaden Mickey made a decision that he felt was best for him, so for me to do anything other than support him selfish. I'm not in his shoes, right? I don't know what's going on in his life, and this is what he said is best for him in his future. So, it would be selfish to me to have selfish thoughts and opinions about the decision he's making. I wish him best of luck. I love him. He's a great young man. Has been through a lot and will continue. He'll go and do great things," Freeman added.
