Man in custody after allegedly stealing a pickup truck from Mishawaka Quick Auto, attempting to ram a police car

St. Joseph County Jail

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- One man is in custody after prosecutors say he attempted to ram a stolen truck into a police car.

This happened this past Monday, April 6. Prosecutors say officers were searching for a Dodge Ram that was stolen from the Quick Auto in Mishawaka. Dispatchers told officers the suspect had a notable face tattoo of an "M" and was carrying a knife. Officers later found the truck empty on the 1500 block of High Street in South Bend. Officers later saw Tracy Bradburn exit a house and approach the car to get in. Prosecutors say Bradburn had an "M" tattoo that matched the description from dispatch.

Officers attempted to get Bradburn out of the vehicle by tasing him and grabbing at the truck's door. That's when prosecutors say he drove away. As officers pursued, Bradburn attempted to ram the truck into one of the patrol cars. Officers were eventually able to disable the front tires. Bradburn still refused to exit the truck, and he attempted to drive away again after officers threw a pepper spray ball into the truck. He eventually stopped and was taken into custody.

Prosecutors say Bradburn told officers he stole the truck because he was tired of walking. He denied using the knife in the theft but did acknowledge he had the knife on him. He was later found to be on probation for resisting law enforcement and unlawful carrying of a handgun charges. He also has another felony case pending.
