NOW: Man dies after being thrown from pick-up truck in Thursday night crash

MARSHALL COUNTY, Ind. -- The Marshall County Sheriff's Department reports deputies responded to a multi-vehicle crash in the area of US 30 and US 31 around 9:36 p.m., Thursday.

Dispatch was also informed one of the vehicles involved was engulfed in flames.

Authorities say the crash occurred on US 30 in the westbound lanes just west of the intersection with US 31.

Deputies say the initial investigation determined a 2016 semi-truck with trailer, driven by a 47-year-old Maryland man, was traveling west on US 30.

The report states the semi then struck a stationary 2024 Ford F250, occupied by 26-year-old Thomas J. Diener of Wisconsin and two additional passengers, on the shoulder of the road.

The F250 was behind a utility truck being towed by a wrecker truck.

Authorities say Diener was ejected from the driver's seat of his pick-up truck, while the two passengers were injured and later taken to the hospital.

First responders attempted life-saving measures on Diener, but the Marshall County Coroner pronounced him dead at the scene.

The driver of the wrecker was also injured and taken to the hospital.

Authorities say the investigation is ongoing.
