Man arrested in connection to Ardmore Trail apartment complex shooting
St. Joseph County Jail SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A man has been arrested in connection with the Ardmore Trail apartment complex shooting in the early morning hours on Sunday.
The 30-year-old Richard Span, Jr. has been charged with Resisting Law Enforcement and Battery by Means of a Deadly Weapon.
According to the South Bend Police Department, officers were dispersing a reported fight at Beacon Heights Apartments in the 3400 block of Ardmore Trail early Sunday morning when they heard roughly six rounds of gunfire from the building and saw an SUV speeding away.
The officers attempted a traffic stop and pursued the SUV until it stopped and parked at a gas station. The driver, Span, allegedly left the SUV and was detained without incident.
Officers also allege they saw a handgun with an extended magazine on the front passenger seat.
After an investigation, Span was arrested and taken to St. Joseph County Jail.
At the same time, one woman was taken to a local hospital where she was treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
The shooting remains under investigation by the Violent Crimes Unit.
