SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The commissioner of a major college football conference is appealing a controversial call that he claims botched the results of a recent game.

In a new statement, Jon Steinbrecher argues that Western Michigan University's 7-12 loss against Michigan should be reversed to a 12-7 WMU victory. The end of that game became controversial after referees ruled that a second should be added to the clock after it had reached 0:00. That last second allowed Michigan to throw a touchdown for a victory.

In a new statement, Steinbrecher argues that replay protocol was not properly followed by officials; he alleges that the Big Ten Conference replay crew relied on the clock feed in its own replay system, as opposed to the game clock displayed on the program feed.

The Big Ten defended the call, saying its synchronized camera system was used to determine the timing.
