ELKHART, Ind. - Veterans living in an Elkhart senior living community shared their remarkable war stories Thursday as part of a project sponsored by Senator Joe Donnelly.
The event featured generations, young and old, and everyone in between..
Members of Senator Joe Donnelly’s staff travel the state every month to listen and record first hand experiences of wars like the Korean War and World War II.
Their stories are archived and will eventually be used by historians and teachers.
Volunteers like Dawn Szabo say these types of events are opportunities, difficult to pass on.
“I’ve always been a proponent of saving those memories and I think what’s going on here is just so important the memories I heard from Mr. Tom today really amazing his time in Coast Guard,” said Szabo.
