Local teen organizes Candlelight Vigil in Grand Blanc Aftermath

MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- In the wake of the tragic Grand Blanc Mormon church shooting, one Mishawaka teen is bringing people of all faiths together — choosing unity over fear.

Krissy Dyrhaug organized a candlelight vigil at the Mishawaka Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to honor the victims of the tragedy.

“It’s hard to not focus on the negativity sometimes,” Dyrhaug said. “So, I think this for me has been a very positive experience, being able to focus on the positivity within the incident and everything going on.”

To make the event welcoming to all, Dyrhaug offered glow sticks for children instead of open flames and provided seating for those unable to stand during the service. Her focus, she said, was to inspire compassion and hope.

“Just by your perspective, you can change your entire life,” she said. “If you look through your life with a positive perspective, I think your life will be a lot better.”

The vigil featured music, prayers, and messages from church leaders and community members. Attendees joined in song, honoring the victims of the Grand Blanc tragedy while promoting peace and togetherness in its aftermath.
