Local soldier killed in Afghanistan

ELKHART, Ind. -- An Elkhart native was killed on Tuesday when the helicopter he was flying in went down in Afghanistan. Six soldiers in the helicopter died, but their cause of death has not been determined.

The Pentagon is investigating whether the soldiers died from the crash or in contact with the enemy after the crash.

One person survived.

The local victim, Jessie Williams, graduated from Elkhart Central ten years ago.

Williams leaves behind a young daughter.

Tuesday was the single-deadliest day for US forces in Afghanistan since August 2012.
