ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- Following an altercation at a political event late last year, St. Jospeh County GOP Vice Chair Marvin Joe Layne has officially been charged with Battery.
According to court documents, on or about Nov. 10, 2024, Officer Drew Kant was dispatched to 4609 Grape Road in Mishawaka for reports of a conflict between Layne and St. Joseph County Council member Dan Schaetzle who was speaking at the meeting.
"Marvin Joe Layne told him his time was up speaking," authorities said. "Schaetzle refused to hand over the microphone and stop talking, and Layne walked up to Schaetzle, grabbed the microphone, and pushed Schaetzle."
Layne has a hearing on Feb. 20 at 8 a.m.
