BREAKING: One person and an officer are injured after shots fired at Eddy Street Commons
ABC 57 UPDATE 2: South Bend Police Chief Scott Ruszkowski confirms an officer was also injured by a ricocheted bullet.
UPDATE 1: A representative of Notre Dame confirms there were shots fired at the intersection of Angela Boulevard and Eddy Street where one person was injured.
The suspect who fled the scene is being described as a heavyset Black male with dreadlocks, wearing blue shorts, a black shirt with a red and blue design on the front and one white.
The injured person was transported by ambulance to Memorial Hospital.
The South Bend Police Department and Notre Dame Police are searching for the suspect.
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- ABC57 is on scene at a large police presence on Eddy Street.
A source who lives near Eddy Street shared this text alert with ABC57 from Notre Dame Alert Emergency System saying, "After gunfire in the Eddy Street Commons area, the suspected gunman was last seen on the south edge of campus. Police are actively searching for the suspect. People inside the Stadium should stay in the Stadium, others should shelter in place. The suspect is a Black male, heavy-set, blue shorts, black shirt and one white shoe."
St. Joseph County Dispatch confirms the call came in at 7:37 p.m.
One person was transported to the Hospital.
Public is being advised to avoid the area.
